Regina SerbinDear Walker Elementary School Community,

My name is Regina Serbin and I am your new principal. I hope you and your loved ones are happy and healthy at this time. I am looking forward to a successful school year!

Let me share a little bit about myself. I am an immigrant from Brazil who has been living in this country for 29 years. I fully embrace my two cultures, and I consider myself a bicultural individual. I am first and foremost a mother and wife. My daughter, Bianca, is starting her senior year in college at University of Pennsylvania. My husband, Ken, is a college professor at University of San Diego. My mother and 2 brothers still live in Brazil.

In addition, I have worked as a teacher, coach, and instructional coordinator for San Diego Unified for the past 25 years. My formal training includes a BA in history, an M. Ed. in curriculum and instruction, a bilingual credential, reading specialist and GATE certificates from UCSD, and an administrative credential from SDSU.

My ultimate goal for Walker is to help create a learning community in which all students are included and supported to ensure that every child has the resources, teachers, interventions, and supports they need to be successful. The elementary principalship provides me the chance to work collaboratively with teachers on a daily basis, while also remaining connected to students learning and growing in the classroom. I firmly believe in and embrace our San Diego Unified vision: “All San Diego students will graduate with the skills, motivation, curiosity and resilience to succeed in their choice of college and career in order to lead and participate in the society of tomorrow.”

This year,  San Diego Unified School District has launched an exciting literacy acceleration plan to support our TK-5th grade students as growing readers and our educators as teachers of reading. I am excited to work with you as we extend all students’ abilities to produce, interpret, and understand language across all subjects

To our Walker Eagles, I cannot wait to meet you all! This is going to be a year of learning together on site again. We will closely follow health and safety guidelines to ensure we are all safe.

I welcome your conversation and positive input throughout this year as we focus on our students’ success. I look forward to celebrating our collective achievements during the 2022-2023 school year.

Kindly,

Regina Serbin
